Each year Kelowna Film Society invites applications for scholarships or bursaries from students in full time, post-secondary Film Studies programs and also from local film makers. Funds are generated, throughout the year, from any excess of expenditure over entrance fees collected, at weekly film screenings, throughout the year.
For 2023, we continue our participation with the Central Okanagan Bursary and Scholarship Society COBSS with one scholarship award for a graduating student destined for film school. We use this channel to improve our outreach to students just graduating from Okanagan secondary schools. This Scholarship was awarded to Katerina Sawatzky, who has graduated from Kelowna Christian School, and plans to attend a film school program next year. This scholarship applies directly to tuition.
We also had direct applicants that were reviewed by our scholarship committee. For 2023, we are supporting 3 film projects. There were no direct applicants for tuition support.
Riley Eberts is a graduate of the Professional Filmmaking Program at the Centre for Arts and Technology in Kelowna. We helped Riley with tuition last year, and we screened her short film "Reflection". This year we are supporting Riley's short film project "Neon Terror".
Trevor Trombley is a local film-maker and member of OSIF. We are supporting Trevor's short film project "The Escapee".
Matt Brown is a local film-maker and actor and member of OSIF. We are supporting Matt's short film project "Bloody Vintage".
