No Bears - filmed before Iran descended into the protests and violence following the death of Mahsa Amini, Jafar Panahi shows the daily difficulties and professional compromises of life under a totalitarian regime. Navigating maddening challenges, he tells a complicated story that resonates with human truth. Now imprisoned in Tehran’s notorious Evin prison, hopefully Panahi will have a chance someday to tell the story of that experience. Until then, we have No Bears to represent the lives of people engaged in a deadly generational struggle. (Persian, Azerbaijani, English subtitles, Rated PG, 1 hour 46 minutes).
