Montreal, My Beautiful – May 6, 6:30 – Landmark

(2026) Written & Directed by Xiaodan He

For years, Feng Xia felt like a spectator in her own life. A Chinese immigrant in Montreal, she moved through the world with quiet duty, bound by the weight of family, tradition, and a loveless marriage. Now in her early fifties, she feels a long-dormant desire begin to stir. When she meets Camille, a fiercely independent young Québécoise, Feng Xia’s sense of self is shattered. She finds herself caught between the safe, suffocating comfort of the status quo and an uncharted future — one that is as terrifying as it is liberating.

Montreal’s humid summer serves as a perfect setting for the character’s emotional turmoil. Sharing the screen with Charlotte Aubin, Joan Chen delivers a poignant performance. She writes: "This role speaks to me on a deeply personal level. It’s rare to find a script that explores age, sexuality, and cultural dislocation with such depth. I very much enjoyed exploring and inhabiting Feng Xia’s unique world, and I can’t wait for audiences to do the same."
