No Other Land – April 23

Winner of the 2025 Academy Award for Best Documentary Film, No Other Land is a Palestinian/Israeli co-production.

It focuses on Palestinian villages in the West Bank whose occupants were ordered to leave. A long, bitter process continued for many years of bulldozers being sent in with soldiers who were grimly unmoved by residents’ desperate protests. Local Palestinian resident Basel Adra had been recording his community’s harassment and destruction on video.

The film documents his remarkable relationship with Israeli photojournalist Yuval Abraham, with whom he collaborated on this film.

It closes with a bittersweet dialogue between the two whose friendship has clearly been deepened by the experience and by the film, while both are also aware of how little has really changed.

No Other Land is an act of bearing witness. Just watching is not enough. But it’s a start…At least it’s not turning away or thinking it doesn’t matter. ” Sheila O'Malley, Roger Ebert.com
