Set in Peru in 1992 with soaring inflation, protests on the streets, regular power cuts, a strict night time curfew and a growing exodus of those who had the means to leave. It was a time of social unrest and economic collapse.
The mother, Elena, has been offered work in the U.S. and hopes to relocate there with their 2 teenage daughters. But in order for the girls to depart Peru, she needs the legal consent of her ex-husband Carlos.
While centering on a family with their particular challenges, the director quietly tackles the socio/political issues that have pushed its protagonists into their personal dilemma. And by focusing on those directly affected, this history acquires a human face.
