With the high Arctic very much in the news for all the wrong reasons, here’s a much more appropriate and satisfying reason to pay attention to the region. Renowned Inuit filmmaker Zacharias Kunuk (whose Atanarjuat – The Fast Runner is considered one of the best Canadian films of all time) sets his latest offering thousands of years in the past when supernatural forces threaten star-crossed lovers Sapa and Kaujak. Kunuk’s goal of preserving Inuit stories and traditions for future generations is realized in a tale of myth, magic and love set in the atmospheric Far North. Traditional life with a tinge of unearthly strangeness makes for a special watching experience.
